Welcome to the Faculty of Law at the University of Bayreuth! We are delighted that you are considering spending one or two semesters with us. Whether you are coming through ERASMUS, one of our Global Programmes, or as a freemover, the information below will help you prepare for your stay and settle into university life in Bayreuth.

General information for Incoming International Law Students

In addition to all courses taught in German, the University of Bayreuth offers a wide range of law courses in foreign languages (English, Spanish and French) for you to enroll in:
- List of law courses in foreign languages for the summer semester 2026.
- cmlife (course catalog with courses from all faculties)
For each course, you will earn 6 ECTS after passing an exam.
For seminars, you will earn 10-12 ECTS. However, please be aware that a seminar paper and presentation is an academic achievement and can be demanding.We would also like to mention the entensive range of courses offered by the Language Center, which provides language courses in more than 20 languages.

Winter Semester 2026/27
The winter semester starts on October 1, 2026, and ends on March 31, 2027. The first day of lectures is October 12, 2026, and the last day of lectures is February 5, 2027. There will be no lectures from December 24, 2026 to January 6, 2027 (Christmas Holidays).Summer Semester 2027
The summer semester starts on April 1, 2027, and ends on September 30, 2026. The first day of lectures is April 12, 2026, and the last day of lectures is in mid-July.Please Note: Orientation Week usually takes place in the week before the first day of lectures (participation mandatory, see here.) As soon as registration is possible, all admitted international students will receive an invitation via e-mail.
